Boy Craig West has forgotten more about the broadcast game than I know. He has called over 1600 WHL games and I think he said around 800 baseball games. He has made it to 1000 games with the Americans. I’ll be in my 40s if I get to that point with the Broncos. There are so many experienced and talented guys to learn from in this league.
I thought the Broncos played a strong first half and let the game slip away from them after the shorthanded goal in the second period. Their PP is normally a strength and struggled against a good Americans PK tonight. Meanwhile, the Broncos PK was again excellent and has really turned a corner. Looks to me like as good as Tri-City is they could use a puck moving D for that man advantage.
There were some good scraps towards the end of the game. When they get up on hockeyfights.com I will post them here. Graham Black got in his first scrap, Andy Blanke traded some major shots in his tilt and Shea Howorko had a dominant victory in his.
Next up is a big game in Everett. We’re in Kent, Washington now which will be our home base for the rest of the trip. The Silvertips have struggled this season, but they aren’t going to go down easy. I’ve watched a lot of Mark Ferner coached teams and they never rollover. The Broncos will need to be at their best will everyone buying in, and they need their veteran guys to step up and produce again after a slow few games for them.
Colby Cave was terrific tonight. He made a great move on his goal (a fantastic feed from Gordon set it up) and showed hints of a player who could take over games. He is young and there is a long way to go… but we are watching him grow before us right now. That will do it for tonight’s update as it’s already 3am and time to hit the hay.
Game time in Everett is 9:05pm with a pre-game show at 8:30pm on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
Here is my quick look at the Toyota Center in the Tri-Cities:
It struck me watching a loud and large crowd celebrate the Americans’ victory how this team was nearly lost half a decade ago. I saw a large group of them all high fiving each other every time there was an Americans goal. They were nearly on their way Chilliwack at one point and now they are one of the most successful teams in the league. It’s a good story there. It’s nice to see fans anywhere having that much fun. Especially when some people wrote them off.
