Gordon/Black Ranked, Elmwood Sponsors Blog

(Gordon and Black – Photo from scbroncos.com)

Congrats to Broncos F Coda Gordon and F Graham Black for being listed on the final NHL Central Scouting rankings for the 2012 NHL draft. Both guys dropped from the mid-season rankings and Gordon went from 38th among North American skaters to 61rst, while Black went from 63rd to 83rd.

It’s fair to say their drop came in part because the Broncos didn’t score as much in the last few months of the season. As a team production was down and that caused both guys to drop a bit. I also think teams keyed  on both of them more and more as they realized how dangerous and productive they could be.

Either way rookie seasons of 53 and 50 points are very impressive. Being ranked by NHL Central Scouting is very impressive. Now we wait to see if one or both will get drafted in June. They have both earned that opportunity.

I had a chat today with Coda who was good enough to talk to me while he was on vacation. I also caught up with Swift Current product Colton Heffley of the Kelowna Rockets who was ranked 171rst in North America.

Good luck to all three men as they go through a stressful few months waiting to find out if their names will get called.

ELMWOOD SPONSORS BLOG

I want to say thanks to the good people at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club for sponsoring my blog. There are some costs associated with running the blog (space for audio and what not) and of course there is the amount of time put in to running it. I very much appreciate them seeing the value in and getting behind it.

It’s a natural fit because as hockey season wraps up a lot of us turn our attention to the golf course. They also host the Broncos Alumni tournament which I will be talking about more in the coming weeks and months.

The course is opening on Friday. The range is already up and running as we speak.

I know when I moved here from BC I wasn’t sure what to expect from golf course in Saskatchewan and a picturesque course like Elmwood was a really pleasant surprise. There are good people there and it’s a lot of fun to play. I will keep you up to date on the important stuff happening there throughout the golf season including the fact that they have some great deals right now as they try to attract more young members. If you’re 20 to 29 or 30 to 39 there is a great opportunity to join the club right now at a very affordable rate. More details to come.

Bottom line is I appreciate them supporting the blog and I hope you will support them!

Elmwood has really stepped up to get younger!! Its like an NHL team turning the tide and realizing they must do it to be successful long term! Their Junior Program is the BEST in Canada and Jeff Chambers has recieved many awards in the last few years to prove this! Good Luck this year Elmwood for taking this initiative.

Keep working hard Colton and you will make the Big Show! Graham if you train hard this summer and take hockey more serious you will without a doubt have a successful pro season! Coda havent seen hands like yours since Andy Schneider but you need to work on your foot speed this summer! Good Luck all 3 of you!
