It’s a big night for Adam Lowry and Graham Black in Vancouver. Here is my article from Swift Current Online:
Adam Lowry and Graham Black of the Swift Current Broncos will suit up for Team WHL against Russia in game 5 of the U20 Subway Super Series Wednesday night in Vancouver.
Lowry played in one of the games last season and knows they have to prepare for a different approach to the game.
“I think it’s kind of a feeling out process early on,” said Swift Current’s Captain. “They play a different style than we do over here in Canada. It takes a little while to get accustomed to.”
Both Lowry and Black will play in Game 5 on Wednesday in Vancouver and in Game 6 Thursday in Victoria. Lowry was also named Team WHL Captain for Thursday’s game.
“It feels awesome,” Lowry said. “I didn’t expect it, but to be named captain for one of the games is a huge honour for me. There are so many great leaders on the team and to be recognized among them is pretty special. I’m looking forward to representing the Broncos organization with Graham and can’t wait to get the games underway.”
It’s Black’s first appearance in the Super Series. When he found out he was on the team his enthusiasm was obvious.
“I just can’t to lace up the skates and see what I can do against all the great talent that will be there,” Black said. “I think those guys are incredible and all the guys on the team are just amazing players. I just hope I can keep up.”
Lowry, a Winnipeg Jets draft pick, has 26 points in 23 games so far this season. Black is a New Jersey Devils draft pick and has 17 points in 21 games this season.
The series is tied as the Russians split their games against the QMJHL and OHL. Their team includes first overall NHL draft pick Nail Yakupov. It’s a good opportunity for Lowry and Black as Hockey Canada is known to use the Super Series as a chance to evaluate potential World Junior Championship players up close.
Both games will be on national television. Game 5 is on Rogers Sportsnet West at 9pm on Wednesday and Game 6 is on Rogers Sportsnet One on Thursday at 9pm.
The Broncos are off until they start an Alberta road swing in Red Deer on Saturday. Black and Lowry should be able to rejoin the team in time for their game with the Rebels.
