There it is. The new scoreboard for the Credit Union iPlex. Thanks to Todd Vallee from our newsroom for going out and getting a couple of snap shots. It looks good! Actually very similar to the scoreboard in Prince Albert. Click here for comparison. It had to be different from your NHL style scoreboard due to the dimensions of the arena. I like it. The video will open up a lot of new options for pre-game and in-game entertainment. I don’t know how soon the team will be able to operate the video, but it is still a major step up from the scoreboard we had before.
Kudos to the city for a job well done! Here are a couple of other pictures:
I’m looking forward to seeing the scoreboard in operation when we’re back home.
We are in Kennewick for the game with the Tri-City Americans tonight. Given that today is Black Friday here I thought I would take in the “festivities” at midnight. It was very odd. The streets were busy, the restaurants were hopping and the stores were packed at a time of day when usually you could hear a pin drop. In the end it was mostly a waste of time as the best deals were gone within minutes. It was still interesting to see. People were camped out and once they get on there were some people so tired they fell asleep in the aisles or in one case against the jewellery case at Macy’s. That is dedication! It’s a great strategy because once you have decided to go to a store at that time of day and wait in line… you almost feel like you have to buy something. I didn’t but it was tempting even for things I didn’t need. Good marketing.
This line at Target was all around the store… at Target! People were cheering when they got let in:
Tonight the Broncos face a big challenge when they face the first place Tri-City Americans. Click here for a look at how the fourth line has been contributing lately. The Americans have only lost twice at home all season. They have some of the most skilled guys in the league including Adam Hughesman. He has 15 points in his last 7 games and the Broncos are going to have to keep an eye on him.
Tri-City is 2-1 against the East Division so far with wins over Prince Albert and Saskatchewan, but also a 3-2 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings. They are tough and it will be a major challenge. The Americans apparently have a great transition game and Swift Current is going to have to keep a lid on turnovers. They need to play a relatively clean game with strong goaltending to have a shot at this one. The Broncos have played four very solid games in a row despite their 3-2 loss in Spokane on Wednesday. Play like that and get a few more pucks to the net and they will be in the game. A win here would be a huge boost and there is no reason they can’t do it if they play their game.
Our broadcast starts at 8:30pm on The Eagle 94.1 FM
