I don’t have my pre-game audio (technical issue) so that will be it for today. It was a good road win. You could tell fatigue was a bit of a factor in the third period, but the Broncos battled hard and held on.
It is worth mentioning that the Broncos PK is operating at 88% efficiency so far in November. That’s a huge upgrade from when they were working at close to 64% early in the season.
It was a good performance from Taylor Vause as he burst out of a brief recent slump with a couple of goals. Graham Black was dangerous all game again as well. The other thing for the top two centres was that they were winning face offs. Tri-City dominated the dot on Friday and it made a huge difference today that the Broncos had possession of the puck more often than not. It was especially evident late as they were trying to protect a lead.
Jon Groenheyde has had a good run recently. His save percentage is up 0.22% from October to November and his GAA is down nearly 0.3 points. Beyond the stats, Groenheyde is giving his chance to win every game. That’s all they were asking the veteran to do. With this run of games in a short span I wonder if we will see Austin Smith before the road trip is up.
Next up? Sunday in Portland. The Winterhawks are a very dangerous club with a lot of skill. They were also off on Saturday and should be fresh. It’s going to be a big challenge for the Broncos, but they have proven they can hang with the most talented teams in the league if they play their game. They still need to get some more pucks on net as they have been letting chances get away from them on this road trip by failing to at least get the first shot through and possibly create rebound chances.
It’s a 5pm start here so 7pm in Saskatchewan. Our pre-game show starts at 6:30pm.
