The end of the NHL lockout means players like former Bronco Zack Smith are headed back to work in the world’s top professional league. Smith signed a four year extension with the Ottawa Senators in the fall and is ready to get back on the ice and continue a career that has surpassed expectations at every step. That doesn’t mean he didn’t feel the frustration throughout the lockout. Here is the conversation I had with Zack on the first broadcast of Overtime on The Eagle 94.1 FM.

Smith and the Senators will likely be back on the ice for training camp on Sunday with the season starting on January 19th.

FORMER BRONCOS TO THE AHL

The ending of the NHL lockout has opened up some jobs in the American Hockey League for some Swift Current Broncos Alumni.

The Texas Stars signed former Broncos Captain Justin Dowling and the Lake Erie Monsters added former Bronco Matt Tassone. Dowling had 46 points in 34 games for Idaho in the ECHL. He played 22 games in the AHL with Abbotsford last season.

The Stars have also featured former Broncos Cody Eakin and Taylor Vause on their roster this season. Tassone had 8 points in 14 Central Hockey League games. Former Swift Current Coach Dean Chynoweth is the bench boss for the Mosnters.

Congrats to both guys and best of luck with their new teams.
