Broncos are gonna need to find some veteran presence on that back end so all the young talent learns how to stay calm. Hopefully someone with size because no one on the back end could handle calgarys size. it took two guys to angle zane jones off yesterday and he wasnt the only one. I’d like to see them pick up someone with a real toughness factor so that the young guys still have heads on there shoulders come christmas, Honka and martin get run over once a game and no one does anything. Lernout and lesann are good fighters but lack any kind of intimidation. lot of promise with this team but some size would sure help them deal with the bigger teams

I don’t know if anyone is going to stop teams from playing Honka and Martin physically. If they don’t their coaches will probably staple them to the bench… you have to play guys that skilled physically.

Re: veteran D. Mark Lamb has been saying since camp that they are keeping their eyes open for a veteran D they could slot in to their group. The good news is while that guy hasn’t emerged most would probably agree that this young D has been mostly ahead of where we expected they would be.

While I know teams wont stop hitting your skilled guys I look at last year in the fact that we had some real powerful hitters like nedomlel, Lund and Lowry. Teams didn’t want to play that hammer on skill guys because we could typically our hit them. Look at point in MJ. Or valk or shinkaruk in mh. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen them get hit with any authority. Is it because they never put themselves in a bad spot(doubtful) or another reason?

    • shawnmullin says:

Well I do think both those guys are pretty elusive also. Honka for example is still adjusting to a very different style of play in North America and will get better at avoiding big contact the longer he’s here.

Don’t get me wrong size and physical play are important also I would never suggest otherwise.
