It was as entertaining as any Swift Current Broncos hockey game has been all season, but they came away empty handed after a 5-4 loss to Portland on Friday night. Nicolas Petan and Brendan Leipsic each had a goal and an assist to lift the defending WHL champions to victory on home ice.

“There’s going to be a lot of guys in this game on both sides who don’t play in the National Hockey League,” said Broncos Assistant Coach Jamie Heward. “That was a National Hockey League environment tonight. The crowd was into it, the rink was buzzing, the game was fast, so for me standing on the bench it kind of reminded me of games I played in.”

“Even though we didn’t come out on top it’s a great learning experience for these kids to know they can play at this level every night.”

Tanner LeSann extended his point streak to five games with a goal and an assist in a losing cause. He has scored in each game on the US Division road swing and has three goals and three assists over the length of his streak.
