Nikita Scherbak scored twice and had an assist in a 6-3 Saskatoon win over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday.

Dylan Busenius also had a three point night as the Blades snapped a thirteen game losing streak with the victory.

Despite the result, the story of the game was a trade between the two teams. Forwards Nathan Burns of the Blades and Connor Sanvido of the Broncos were last minute scratches leading to speculation about a deal throughout the game.

The Broncos acquired Burns and a 2014 7th round bantam draft pick for veteran forward Connor Sanvido, a 2014 2nd round bantam draft pick, a conditional 2015 3rd round bantam draft pick and prospect forward Wyatt Sloboshan. Click here for more details on the trade.

Swift Current wasn’t at their best as their new star’s old team took four separate leads on the Broncos before finally putting them away.

“A frustrating game for us the way we played,” said Broncos Associate Coach Darren Evjen. “We just didn’t have enough people playing good enough to win today.”

“If you’re not all-in and ready to play there’s so many little areas you get beat… your directness, how sharp you are, your skating, your puck battles, there are so many little things and that’s what we were lacking today.”
