Eetu Laurikainen made 26 saves for the shutout as the Swift Current Broncos beat the Saskatoon Blades 5-0 on Friday night.

“We had a lot of more rhythm in our game,” said Broncos Associate Coach Darren Evjen. “Our details were a lot better in all three zones. Those practices (this week) really paid off. It still isn’t exactly where we need to be, but it’s like night and day the way we played today and the last three games.”

Brett Lernout, Nathan Burns and Jay Merkley each had a goal and an assist, while Graham Black and Coda Gordon had three assist nights for Swift Current.

Lernout has 8 points in the 8 games the Broncos have played without star defenceman Julius Honka.

“It’s beyond what I expected for my role to be,” Lernout said. “Honka left so I got an opportunity on the power play so I mean I just set up one-timers.”

“Getting the opportunity helps me a lot handling the puck and just more confidence.”
