A rowdy group of Swift Current fans overwhelmed the crowd in Mose Jaw with “Lets Go Broncos” chants as their team bounced back from a bad loss in Brandon with a 6-3 victory over the Warriors on Saturday night.
Graham Black had a four point night, while Jay Merkley scored twice in helping Swift Current get back into a tie for first in the WHL East Division with the Wheat Kings.
“Yesterday Brandon really popped us,” said Broncos Associate Coach Darren Evjen. “It really hits home when you get beat that bad… it was a good wake-up call and tonight we made some changes. Our guys were ready right from the get-go. There was a good focus on the ice.”
“Tonight we played very direct, we were had on the puck, we were good defensively… it kind of all slides together when you arein the right from of mind.”
After a game in Brandon where they were unhappy with their veterans in an 8-1 loss, those top players were very strong in leading the way against the Warriors.
“Everybody jumped on board it was really a team effort,” Evjen said. “The older guys that play a lot of minutes really came through for us.”
