Connor Gay scored a highlight reel overtime winner as the Regina Pats put themselves in firm control of the race for first in the WHL East Division with a 4-3 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night.

The Pats now lead the division by 7 points with 7 games to play for them and 8 games left for the Broncos.

Swift Current had a 2-0 lead after the first period and couldn’t hang on to sweep the key home-and-home with their rivals.

“We got away from our game plan,” said Broncos Associate Coach Darren Evjen. “Started throwing some pucks more in the middle rather than just keeping it on the wall and grinding it out. When we did that they started coming on.”
