After seventy-two games of a regular season marathon the Swift Current Broncos and Medicine Hat Tigers renew an old rivalry to start what they both hope will be a long playoff run.
It’s a battle rife with history.
“You know it’s just a short hop down Highway 1,” said legendary Tigers Broadcaster Bob Ridley. “When you take a good hard look at it these two teams play a similar style. Swift Current might be a little bit bigger than the Tigers, but they do have good team speed and they like to bump and grind a little bit.”
“I really think we’re in for a great series.”
It doesn’t hurt being so close geographically.
“It’s the fact that we’re so close to each other,” said Tigers Associate Coach and former Bronco Darren Kruger. “The atmosphere is loud, being so close a lot of fans go back and forth and fill the rinks.”
Swift Current won the first five series between the two teams until the Tigers won the previous four. Medicine Hat won that last battle in 2009 in a series that went seven games.
None of the players involved in this season’s battle have been a part of a Broncos/Tigers series yet. This one could have a different look.
