Jake DeBrusk scored the winner 6:09 to play and the Swift Current Broncos beat Medicine Hat 3-1 in game 3 of their first round playoff series on Tuesday.
The victory cut Medicine Hat’s lead to 2-1 in the best of seven.
DeBrusk’s goal was his second of the series as the rookie has made an immediate impact to start his playoff career.
“He’s had a great second half,” said Broncos Associate Coach Darren Evjen. “He’s always scored. Last year he scored a ton in midget, in playoffs he had big goals, he’s had big goals for us. It’s an opportunity to see some of our younger players and how they will perform in playoffs. So far Jake has been very good.”
Nathan Burns had a goal and an assist for the Broncos in the win. He has been in on five of the six Swift Current goals and all but one were scored in the third period.
“We liked our game,” Evjen said. “This is the way this series has been. It’s been hard for both teams to score and not a whole bunch of chances. Both teams have been good defensively and both goaltenders have been good.”
The victory came in front of a very close to sellout crowd at the Credit Union iPlex.
“It was awesome,” said goalie Eetu Laurikainen of the crowd’s size and energy. “Let’s do it again tomorrow.”
