Another big day for the Swift Current Broncos. First they claimed Slovakian forward Kristian Ferletak on waivers from the Vitoria Royals and then goaltender Landon Bow was announced as the CHL Goaltender of the Week. It’s a well deserved honour for the third year netminder as he stopped all 51 shots he faced over the weekend in back-to-back shutouts after helping keep the Broncos in a loss to Kelowna earlier in the week.
As for Ferletak, he was made available when Victoria filled their import slots with a waiver claim of their own. Thus far the 18-year-old hasn’t found the score sheet in his brief WHL career, but he already has a long history of playing for Slovakia internationally and brings what I’m told is a gritty game to the Broncos. I chatted with Mark Lamb about the addition earlier today.

To learn more about Ferletak you can click here for a story on him from a Victoria newspaper where he talks about liking to play that gritty style. You can click here for an interview he did with Royals radio voice Marlon Martens. He was a point per game player for HC Banska Bystrica U18 in 2012-13 before putting up 32 points in 44 games for Team Slovakia U18. He played for Slovakia in the U17, U18 and U20 tournaments. We don’t know how soon he will be in Swift Current. Expect to see him in Broncos colours soon as the team is missing Jay Merkley to illness and Cole Johnson to injury. The Broncos host Saskatoon tomorrow.
