Swift Current Broncos decencemen Dillon Heatherington has survived the first round of cuts as Team Canada builds their team for the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Heatherington lasts to play another day after forwards Morgan Klimchuk (Regina Pats), Nick Baptiste and Remi Elie joined defencemen Travis Sanheim (Calgary Hitmen) and Chris Bigras in getting cut on Sunday.

Heatherington had a goal and an assist on Saturday in Canada’s 10-3 exhibition win against the Toronto CIS Selects. He also played in Canada’s 6-0 win against that same squad on Sunday.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie said on Twitter that Heatherington has been “quite steady” and predicted he was in a battle with three other players for three spots at the bottom of Canada’s defensive depth.

Canada starts pre-tournament play on Friday against Russia.
