Congrats to Broncos defenceman Dillon Heatherington on winning gold with Team Canada tonight. He played some very important minutes down the stretch with a one goal lead including being on the ice with two minutes left to play. That shows the coaching stuff really trusted him in high pressure situations and he held secure the lead for his country as Canada won gold for the first time since 2009.

Heatherington is the second consecutive Broncos defenceman to win gold at the tournament after Julius Honka and Finland were champions in 2014. It’s got to have been quite an experience for Heatherington who also won gold with Canada at U18s. He is creating quite a resume for himself at the international level.

I would expect based on history there will be a chance to recognize Heatherington’s achievement with a huge ovation before the game against Calgary on Wednesday. I’m not sure if he will be back for that game yet or not. I hope we see a big and loud crowd there to show Swift Current’s support for Dillon and what he accomplished.
