A wild day for the Swift Current Broncos front office.

The WHL voided Tuesday’s trade with the Kamloops Blazers that sent 18-year-old defenceman Brycen Martin to the Blazers for 19-year-old defenceman Josh Connolly and a 2nd round bantam draft pick when Connolly refused to report.

Both players found new homes by the end of the day.

Swift Current sent Martin and a conditional 5th round bantam draft pick to Saskatoon for 18-year-old defenceman Jordan Thomson and a 2016 1rst round bantam draft pick.

Kamloops hipped Connolly to his hometown Prince George Cougars for 19-year-old defenseman Marc McNulty.

We will have more details and reaction after our broadcast of the Broncos/Hitmen game which is live now on The Eagle 94.1 FM

One Response to Broncos trade voided, Martin to Blades for Thomson

  1. james says:

Puzzling move given management’s earlier remarks. This is a marginal playoff team that has made itself even more marginal for this year’s possible playoff push and for next year also (unless the 1st round pick is flipped for a veteran). Make no mistake, although Martin never lived up to the expectations of a second overall pick, he is a significant upgrade over Thomson. It’s not even close. So unless management has (rightly) concluded that this year’s prospects are bleak at best and have determined to deal Heatherington, I fail to see any coherent vision to this move. Am I missing something?
