The Swift Current Broncos made another move at the Western Hockey League deadline with the addition of forward Miles Warkentine.
Swift Current picked him up in a deal from Lethbridge for a 7th round bantam draft pick in 2017.
“With Coda Gordon getting hurt just for some dpeth,” said Broncos/ Coach/GM Mark Lamb. “We think there is something there so we made a trade for him.”
Warkentine is a former 1rst round bantam draft pick from back in 2011 and has played 124 games in the WHL putting up 6 goals and 13 assists over that span. He was a big scorer before making the WHL as he put up 39 points in 31 Midget AAA games with Prince Albert as a 15-year-old.
“He’s done it in the past,” Lamb said. “That’s why he was drafted in the 2011 first round.”
The 6’0 185lbs Prince Alberte native tweeted his excitement about joining the Broncos earlier on Saturday.
Warkentine is expected to be in Swift Current on Saturday but won’t play against Everett. You can hear that game on The Eagle 94.1 FM with our pre-game show at 6:30pm. Puck drop is just after 7pm at the Credit Union iPlex.
