The Swift Current Broncos are hoping to mine some untapped potential in Miles Warkentine.
The 18-year-old forward joined Swift Current from Lethbridge at the trade deadline for a 2017 7th round bantam draft pick.
“I think I’m a player that is going to bring my work ethic,” Warkentine said. “I’m going to bring my ‘A’ game every game.”
“Not necessarily my first few years in the WHL, but I have been able to put the puck in the net and put up points. That’s something I’m looking to produce a little bit more, but mostly it’s my work ethic and being tenacious on the forecheck.”
Warkentine has 19 points in 124 WHL games. He was a 1rst round bantam draft pick of the Moose Jaw Warriors and was a big scorer coming up through the Prince Albert minor hockey system. He had 39 points in 31 games for the Midget AAA Mintos as a 15-year-old.
“He was drafted in the 1rst round,” Lamb said. “He got traded to Lethbridge and got some injury problems… he just started playing. We think there’s something there so we made a trade for him.”
