Cory Millette and Justin Gutierrez each scored twice as the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat Swift Current 6-2 in WHL pre-season action on Sunday night.

“It was pretty clear from the scoreboard they outplayed us and outworked us,” said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. “They played to win we played like it was a Sunday night rec game. It was disappointing to see the effort from our guys. We thought we might build on Friday but we failed to do that.”

The Broncos got goals from Cavin Leth and Calvin Spencer in a losing cause.

After a 2-1 win over the Hurricanes on Friday they weren’t careful enough with the puck back home on Sunday.

“We turned the puck over,” Smith said. “Every goal that they got was breakaways, turned the puck over in front of our net, passing blindly… four of their six goals were just simple us giving them great opportunities. Defensively we were careless with the puck.”

  1. Dennis olfert says:

Smith hit the nail on the head, we can cycle behind the net no one in front every body is behind the net, the goalie could go for coffee because if we do get the puck we may pass it to the defence which almost never happens. He shoots it back behind the net because everyone is behind the net, no one in front. We need guys in the front and the defence shooting it at the net. If that is what we are teaching the kids it doesn’t work. It seems that the other team’s have figured it out we just keep doing the same thing every year.
