Schael Higson scored twice and Brock Hamm made 36 saves as the Saskatoon Blades shut the Swift Current Broncos out 4-0 Friday night.
Swift Current outshot the Blades 36-24 but couldn’t claw back into the game after getting down 2-0 early.
“It just didn’t feel right,” said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. “Passes at the start of the game were off. Our shots were off or missing the net. We did some good things and deserve a little better result, but at the end of the day they came into our barn and took two points away from us.”
Higson scored on a couple of seeing eye shots early in the first period to spot the Blades a 2-0 lead. As the game wore on the Broncos had more chances and puck possession than the Blades and weren’t able to take advantage of it.
“Instead of shooting when you should you pass and try and make things look pretty,” Smith said. “You take that extra second to make that perfect shot instead of just getting it on net… we waited too long and the angle was gone or the lane opened up and he could see it. I think it was an attitude and a lack of urgency.”
“To sugar coat the game and say we played well I can’t do that.”
