Tyler Steenbergen scored twice as the Swift Current Broncos couldn’t complete a comeback in Brandon.
Down 3-0 after the first period, two second period goals by Steenbergen got the Broncos right back in the game.
“We had a couple tough breaks putting two pucks in our own net which doesn’t help our cause any,” said Broncos assistant coach Jamie Heward. “They were total accidents.”
“The shots were pretty lopsided but a lot of it came from the outside. The staff was pretty happy with the effort of a lot of the guys tonight. It was pretty gutsy.”
The sophomore turned a broken 2 on 1 into his 4th of the year and then converted a double-minor power play with a burst of speed off the wall.
“(Steenbergen) has been getting a lot of chances,” Heward said. “He’s finally found a way to get some shots and do some good things. I’m happy for a kid like that who has been working hard and finally gets a break.”
