Today the Broncos held their season ending meetings and packed up their lockers. It was a sudden and I’m sure sad day less than 24 hours removed from the high hopes of a Game 7 with a shot at the Eastern Conference final.
While the result of Game 7 was disappointing and not representative of how this team played all playoff, that was a terrific playoff run that inspired a new level of passion for the team in our community. I’m sure there has been this level of buy in and excitement in Swift Current before. I just haven’t seen it yet in my seven years here. It’s been a blast to be right in the middle of the excitement that has been the last few months.
Kudos to all the players, coaches, staff, volunteers, billets, fans, family, etc who made this season possible. It was a pleasure to be a small part of it. As unfortunate as it is that it had to end that way… it was the most fun I’ve had calling hockey in my career for sure. Thanks to all of you who made it that way!
We didn’t get a whole career in Swift Current with the 20-year-olds like we have in other years. There are only weeks and months of memories with Papirny, Lindren and Graham. They are still memories that will last a lifetime. All the best to those three terrific young men as they follow the next step of their dreams.
