Post Game Audio: Regina 2 Broncos 0 (Evjen, Eakin)

Frontier Builders Coach’s Show with Darren Evjen

Broncos Captain Cody Eakin on Team WHL Selection (Pre-Game)

That was a weird game and a game to forget for the Broncos.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team play such wildly inconsistent periods in one 60 minute segment.  To have 2 shots in the first, 21 in the second and 6 in the third?  It’s hard to explain that.  As a result that is one of those efforts that I would say you just have to put behind you.  There was no game plan flaw or systems issue… tonight was just a let down and you’re going to have those sometimes.

Mark Friesen gave his team a chance to win after they didn’t help him out at all in the first period.  Mark Lamb told the Regina newspaper that it could’ve been 5-0 after the first if not for the CHL goaltender of the week.

If just one of the 21 Broncos shots in the 2nd period found its way to the back of the net I’m sure that would have changed the complexion of the game.  Instead it was the Pats who found the next goal.  When Regina was able to take advantage of their power play early in the third period and make it 2-0 that just seemed to suck all the wind out of Swift Current’s sails.

Again that was a game to forget.  Credit to Damien Ketlo and the Pats for shutting the Broncos down.  Swift Current will have another crack at them on Sunday.  For now the key is turning around against Moose Jaw on Saturday night and putting together the kind of effort we’re used to seeing from the club lately.

Don’t forget the special 8pm start time for the game.  That should leave you plenty of time to catch the Rider game and then come down to the Credit Union iPlex for the first period.  We’ll have the broadcast as usual on The Eagle 94.1 FM starting with a pre-game show at 7:30pm.
