It’s a big day for Cochrane, Alberta. They won the Alberta leg of the Kraft TSN Celebration Tour. As we saw in Kyle last year that can be a lot of fun and a big boost to a community. So why is that relevant on a Swift Current Broncos blog? There’s quite a connection between Cochrane and the Broncos. Current forward (and Calgary Flames draft pick) Coda Gordon and former Captain Justin Dowling are Cochrane products, while Broncos all-time leading scorer Todd Holt now calls it home.
Both Dowling and Holt will be part of the WW Smith Broncos Alumni Golf Classic this weekend. Meanwhile, Gordon is busy at Flames development camp.
Before my holiday I had a chance to catch up with Dowling about coming back for the tournament and the direction of his pro career after his first full season in the ECHL and AHL.

Where will Dowling end up? Back in the Flames organization? A new North American team? Could he end up in Europe down the road? To me there’s no question he can have a pro career. It’s just a question of where.
It will be good to see two wizards with the puck like Dowling and Holt put their golf skills to the test. There’s a practice round tomorrow and the golf classic itself goes Saturday. With over 30 alumni in attendance it should be a great time and hopefully I can get some good photos/audio for you.

Meanwhile, the other Cochrane product is busy trying to impress his hometown team. Coda Gordon was drafted by the Flames in June and is making his first appearance in Calgary colours this week.

I hope all the Broncos at their respective development camps are having a good time living another part of their NHL dream. I will talk more about that after the weekend.
