The London Olympics just started yesterday, but a member of the Swift Current Broncos brought home a gold medal from Europe already this summer! Christian Magnus helped Canada win gold at the World U20 Ball Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic. He hadn’t even played ball hockey until making Team Sask for an event last summer. Scouts then recruited him to join the national team this summer.

He was the only WHL player on the team that included four OHL players as well.

Magnus had an assist in the gold medal game as Canada beat the Czech Republic 3-2. He had 6 points in 5 games. Congrats to Christian on the gold medal and an experience I’m sure he will always remember!

He has a lot of positive momentum going after finishing the regular season with 7 goals and 10 points in his final 9 games. Hopefully he can build on that as he tries to lock up an overage spot this fall.

Tonight is the first Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame banquet in Swift Current. It should be fun and I hope to have some audio and photos from the event on the blog shortly after. I’ve also got interviews with the current guys from development camps, the prospects who were at the NHLPA All-Canadian events and more coming up in a few days.
